Darwin, Divinity, and the Dance of the Cosmos:  An Ecological Christianity by Bruce Sanguin.  A helpful contribution to our conversations about  the connection between the new cosmology and ways of being the church.  He writes:  "Evolution is the way that the Holy creates in space and in time, in every sphere: material, biological, social, cultural, psychological, and spiritual. WHAT DYING PEOPLE WANT by David Kuhl, MD.  Very helpful for anyone journeying with someone who is dying and for each of us to help us face our own death.  This  wise and compassionate book by Vancouver palliative care physician David Kuhl is an easy read because the people who are dying are talking with us.  A major contribution to a culture which finds talking about death so difficult.

STARTING OUT IN THE AFTERNOON by Jill Frayne.  A memoir about a mid-life adventure in northern BC and Hadai Gwaii.  Fine writing , seeringly honest, often funny.

I'D SAY YES, GOD, IF I KNEW WHAT YOU WANTED by Nancy Reeves.  This book on spiritual discernment by Victoria writer/counsellor/speaker Reeves has  made the subject of discernment reach a wider audience than previous books.  Again, the personal stories make it  highly readable.

THE COSMIC DANCE .  An Invitation to Experience Our Oneness by Joyce Rupp.  An irresistable book - beauty in form and  content.  Joyce is a gifted writer of prose and poetry who shares the movement of her own spiritual life generously.

EVOLUTIONARY FAITH by Diarmuid O'Murchu.  While it is possible to quibble with a lot of the details of O'Murchu's views,  he expands the boundaries of theology and spirituality.

ISLAM A Short History by Karen Armstrong.  A packed little  book that helps in the bridge building endeavour.

READING THE BIBLE AGAIN for the FIRST TIME. Taking the Bible Seriously but Not Literally by Marcus Borg.  The paperback edition of this sensible, accessible book came out in 2002.

CONSTANTINE'S SWORD: THE CHURCH AND THE JEWS by James Carroll.  An award winner by a novelist and cultural critic.

Small Wonder by Barbara Kingsolver.  Even though (or especially since) she is an American and writes from that point of view, she has important things to say about care for the earth, stewardship, and living simply.  She writes well, and along with her husband who collaborates on some chapters, is knowledgeable concerning scientific aspects of her subject.

Writing In The Dust  by Archbishop Rowan Williams.  After all the thousands of words written on 9/11, these are some of the finest and most thought provoking as they ask as many questions as they answer.  Quiet contemplative wisdom to help us take a stand.
