Appendix 2.

Miscellaneous Respondent Comments

Note: Some members wrote comments on their questionnaires about issues unrelated to the future planning of church facilities.  These comments have been listed below.

It would be nice if volunteers could be arranged for people without transportation.

Please communicate to the Board, my thanks for providing this opportunity for feedback.  I think they do a great job and make thoughtful choices on behalf of all of us.  There are likely many others, such as myself who are too busy with the hustle of daily life for committee involvement and are glad that someone else is willing to take it on.  I am pretty traditional in my expectations of the church and its role, so I very much appreciate the sensitive way in which changes to both the physical church and the structures are introduced.  I am not for example very happy with the United Church’s elimination of “He” and “Him” in reference to God.  It is almost like someone along the way was pretty insecure with his/her own masculinity/femininity.  Jesus himself referred to God as his Father.  This whole gender thing is pretty silly- the Father/Mother mumbo jumbo and the creative versions of the Apostles’ Creed and the Lord’s Prayer etc.  When I find such things in our service bulletin, I confess, I cringe.  Progress is great, change is inevitable and not always easy, but I hate to see so much good music and even the Lord’s Prayer changed to satisfy the “whim of a minority” (or so it seems to me).  Thanks for listening.

As a senior person (was born in Squamish etc) I have been more than glad to have a “home away from home” at the church.  I am sure that the congregation will make a good job.  Thank you.

Suggested community events that the Squamish United Church congregation could participate in are: Squamish Days (parade etc), Kindergarten Fair, Trade Fair, Brennan Park Events (ie Halloween) etc.
