story of the Wise Ones at epiphany is a metaphor of journeying in
hope. However dark parts of their travels may have been, they
continued to believe that they would discover new truth through their
voyage of discovery.

Is he really here?

Is it
hard to accept a revelation from God when it seems too ordinary? The
wonder of our world is that God is being revealed to us constantly, not
through the extraordinary, but through those nearest and dearest to us.

An ordinary extraordinary story

Whether
we think of the Christmas story literally or as myth or metaphor, its
central message is true for our present day, as rich and poor, chosen
and outcast share in a transforming event.

God Bearers

The
stories of Mary and Elisabeth remind us of the God bearers. Can we
listen to the wisdom of Elisabeth, hear the song that Mary sang, and
become mid-wives assisting in the birthing of the good news of God's
Kingdom.

Advent waiting

For
many in the ancient world, as for us, advent was a time of waiting in
the midst of hardship and despair, longing for a Saviour in a difficult
world. And in our period of waiting, we attend to God and one
another.

Preparing the Advent Way

Advent
is not a time of waiting for Jesus to come to us; rather, it tells of
his coming with us. Preparing the way calls for repentance, and looking
for new signs and events in our lives.

Tenacious Hope!
|
Advent
is a time of apocalyptic hope, when we think not of devastation and our
flight to heaven, but rather of a transformation of this earth and the
establishment of God's kingdom in our midst.
