Welcoming Reverend Anita Spiller to Squamish United Church
The Ministerial Profile and Search Committee (MPS) is pleased to announce that Reverend Anita Spiller will be our supply minister from Sept. 1- Dec. 31, 2023. Starting with the first email exchange and continuing with phone conversations, and an in-person interview, the MPS committee was drawn to Rev. Spiller. She is easy to talk with, is grounded in her theological beliefs, and wants to be a part-time minister who focuses on worship. She also understands all aspects of church life and is ready to support Squamish United Church as we continue our faith journey.
Rev. Anita comes from Ontario where she was a senior minister for seven years and deeply involved in United Churches for many years prior to being ordained. She enjoys preaching, telling engaging stories, and offering diverse and interesting worship experiences where members and guests can draw closer in their relationship with God. She is also keenly interested in outreach projects and building connections with the local community. Her two primary values in life are justice and joy and these inform her ministry and life.
In August 2022 she and her husband, Pete Spiller, moved to British Columbia ready for an adventure. She had a one year appointment as the Active Family and Youth Minister at Crossroads United Church in Delta. She is now eager to be a lead minister responsible for worship and church life. Rev. Anita describes herself as “Part-time on Purpose” as she also owns a PR and Leadership Training agency.
She describes her hobbies and interests as
• I adore spending time with my big, beautiful family.
• Music is a big part of our lives. I have been playing the Ukulele for four years and have just
begun to take guitar lessons. I love musicals and drama (the stage kind not the church kind)
• All things food related are a favourite activity for our family. We love to cook, eat, preserve
local harvests and host our family and friends. Plus, we are addicted to The Food Network
and the show Chopped.
• I also enjoying reading, Zumba, yoga, working in my garden and napping with my dachshund
Lucy.
• I have recently taken up hiking which connects me with God’s creation in a new and amazing
way.
Please join us in welcoming Rev. Anita.
Her first Sunday will be Sept. 3, 2023.
